Shri G. H. Amin President, NCUI

Shri Ghanshyambhai H. Amin is the President of National Cooperative Union of India and the Vice-Chairman of International Cooperative Alliance – Asia Pacific Regional Board. Born on 28th March, 1947 at Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Shri Amin is a practising High Court lawyer and has also served as Chairman, Bar Council of Gujarat. His deep rooted interest in the farmers development through cooperatives has won him the credentials of a veteran cooperator. In 1980, he was elected as Chairman of a Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society in Gujarat. Later, he served as the Chairman of Ahmedabad District Central Cooperative Bank, Director of Ahmedabad District Sales and Purchase Union, Director of Ahmedabad District Cooperative Union and Director of Gujarat State Cooperative Bank. In 1993, elected as the Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Union and he is holding the position till today. Shri Amin is the founder Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Credit Societies Federation since 1996. At the national level, Shri Amin has served as the member of the Governing, Council of NCUI for a long time and Vice–President of NCUI for two terms. In July 1999, he became the President of NCUI and continued till March, 2000. He was again unanimously elected as President, NCUI in March 2007. He is also the Vice–Chairman of the National Film and Fine Arts Cooperatives and National Federation of State Cooperative Banks.

Shri Amin was the member of the High Powered Committee constituted by the Government of Gujarat for evaluation and amendment of the Gujarat State Cooperative Societies Act. He was also nominated as member of the High Powered Committee on Cooperatives appointed by the Govt. of India.

Shri Amin was appointed as a member of the Jawahar Lal Nehru University by H.E. the President of India. He also served as syndicate member of the Gujarat University. Recently, he has been nominated as Director on the Board of Oil India Limited, a Government of India Enterprise. Shri Amin is the Hon'y Secretary of Dr. Ambedkar Education Society having two law colleges in Ahmedabad and Surat. He is also the Regional Chairman of Gujarat Cosmos Cooperative Bank which is a scheduled bank. In recognition of his significant contribution to the cooperative development, Shri Amin has been conferred with Sardar Patel International Award in Cooperative Management, Vaikunth Mehta International Award for Cooperative Management, felicitated by International Association of Educators for World Peace by UNESCO and with “Gaurav Puraskar” by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat on the occasion of completion of 100 years of cooperative movement in India. Mr. Amin has also written and published two books entitled, “The Gujarat State Cooperative Societies Act, 1961 and Civil Procedure Code” and “Encyclopedia of the Gujarat State Cooperative Societies Act, 1961 with Rules alongwith Allied Laws”. He has widely traveled abroad and participated in various seminars, conferences and workshops.
